Be The Light
We’re so excited that you want to enter the Catholic Church! Welcome home! During this time, the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) program and the Order of Christian Initiation of Children (OCIC) program can help you truly dive into your faith both spiritually and mentally.
Each year, St. Gabriel's offers the opportunity to participate in OCIA and OCIC for those who desire to become members of the Catholic Church. To participate, please contact Michelle Maher. The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is the process, establish for the universal Church, for individuals to become Catholic and receive the sacraments of initiation – Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist. The Order speaks of conversion as a “spiritual journey” centered on fostering a deep relationship with Jesus and the Church He founded. This journey takes place through distinct stages over a period of time suitable to bring about a thorough catechesis, significant experience of the parish community, and commitment to the liturgical and moral life of the Catholic faithful.
If you are interested in registering for this program, please contact Michelle Mayer-Lyons at [email protected] or 719-528-8407.
The OCIC process is for children, ages 7-17, who are unbaptized, who are baptized in another faith and desire to become Catholic or who are uncatechized (have not received First Reconciliation or First Communion). During this process, the children will receive a better understanding of what it means to know and love God and how they can be active members of the Catholic Church. Children will receive the appropriate sacraments at the Easter vigil or on Easter Sunday. At least one parent/guardian is required to attend class with the child.
