“On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the disciples approached Jesus and said, ‘Where do you want us to prepare for you to eat the Passover?’ He said, ‘Go into the city to a certain man, and tell him, ‘The teacher says, ‘My appointed time draws near; in your house I shall celebrate the Passover with my disciples.’ The disciples then did as Jesus had ordered, and prepared the Passover.” (Matthew 26:17-19)

SACRISTAN'S MISSIONProvide the priests and deacons with all of the logistical support necessary before, during and after the celebration of the Mass and other services. Sacristans are dedicated to learning more about the General Instruction of the Roman Missal and ceremonies of the liturgical year.

Main Service
Sacristans prepare the altar vessels and linens as well as the bread and wine needed for Mass. They must set the lectionary on the ambo. The sacristan also makes sure the candles are lit and the lights and sound system are turned on prior to the beginning of Mass. It is necessary for the sacristan to make sure all other scheduled liturgical ministers are present, and to appoint replacements for any who are absent. They also make sure all items are properly cleaned and put away after each Mass.
Minister Requirements
Must be a confirmed Catholic at least 16 years of age and in good standing with the Catholic Church. Also, must be formally commissioned as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and officially mandated by the Vicar General of the Diocese of Colorado Springs.
