Be The Light
When you hear the parish needs Catechists, you probably think, "I'm not qualified for that" or "I don't know enough." Actually, teaching is the most effective way to learn, especially since our Faith Formation program gives you the materials, the tools, and the training. Everyone has doubts in the beginning, but God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called. Catechists, facilitators, and mentors lead with a foundation in prayer and through frequenting the Sacraments.
For parents, the best benefit of all is that your children learn by your example. Action always speaks louder than words. If you offer your time and effort to the Faith Formation program, whether in your own child's class or in another class that meets at the same time, you are teaching your child that their religious education is important, not just because you say it is, but because you are demonstrating its importance in your own life.
Catechist: A catechist is the primary teacher in our classrooms.
Facilitator: A facilitator uses guided discussion techniques to engage the students/participants with a small group.
Mentor: A mentor is an experienced and trusted advisor. A mentor must be willing to engage students and get to know them. As a mentor, it is important to be a good listener with an open mind and heart.
Classroom Assistant: Helps set up and organize the classroom, assist Catechist as needed and clean up.
